“Niš Express” joint-stock company has been active since 1951. The company specializes in local, national, and international bus transportation of passengers. “Niš Express” differs from other companies in that it produces its own buses to transport passengers.
Compared to the ten worn-out tramways and seven old buses in 1951, the company now owns the pool of over 500 comfortable vehicles, on average six years old.
As of November 17, 2008 “Niš Express” has worked in changed conditions. The Consortium of Employees was allowed to buy the company by the Serbian Government’s Privatization Agency. One of the members of this Consortium is the Company Delta Real Estate, part of Delta Holding.
In 2006, “Niš Express” was given the highest awards for the best new product in Serbia for its high class tourist bus NIBUS 400. It was awarded by the Serbian Chamber of Commerce and Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Traffic within the traditional action “Choosing the best trademark in Serbia” (organized by the financial magazine “Pregled”). The Ministry and the Chamber justified their decision to give the prestigious title “Best of Serbia” to this bus in the following way: “the tourist bus NIBUS 400 is the only nationally-made bus found by certified international laboratories to be fully accorded with international standards and thus assessed as a highly safe vehicle.”
“Niš Express” managed to produce such a high quality vehicle by utilizing its own capacities, in terms of human resources, finances, and organization. The production started in 1996. In the meantime, all types of buses have been made in the halls of this company (for city transportation, transport to the suburban areas, and national lines).
“Niš Express” is a complex economic entity whose principal activity is passenger transport. In addition, the company provides servicing and overhaul of its own vehicles, but also of vehicles owned by other companies and individuals, it makes new buses, offers car registration and insurance services, technical check-ups, a driving school… Within the company, there are also restaurants and catering services preparing quality meals for individuals and for major family or company celebrations. The tourist section of the company has successfully organized student excursions, group trips, day trips and visits to national and international locations for years back.
The central bus station is located in the central town zone, right beside Niš fortress, 700 meters away from the central square.
