Church of St. Panteleimon

The church of St. Panteleimon was erected in 1878 right after the liberation of Nis from the Turks. About one hundred meters above the current temple, one finds the remains of the original church which was built by Stefan Nemanja and where he met the German emperor Fredric I Barbarossa during the crusader's forays. The interior of the church was decorated by the painter Djordje Zografski and Nis painter Dusan Milacic in the third decade of the 20th century. Special attention should be paid to the figures of St. Sava and St. Simeon in their natural sizes, the work of Djordje Zografski. There are several springs of water around the church which are believed to be miraculous and therapeutic.
