Hunting and Fishing

In late 19th century, Milan Obrenović, the Serbian prince and later king, went hunting with rich and famous people from Niš. They hunted in Mt. Suva Planina, Mt. Jastrebac, Ćurlin vineyards, Svrljig Mountains and their slopes. His son, Aleksandar I Obrenović, also followed the hunting footsteps of his father. In the period of his frequent visits to Niška Banja, he is also known to have hunted in the locations in Mt. Suva Planina. This is why the hunting venues of Niš are still called "royal sites".
The hunting territory of Niš comprises about 40,000 hectares and is mostly mountainous and lowland in type. The most commonly hunted game includes doe, hog, hare, pheasant, field partridge and rock partridge.
Numerous fishers today fish in the river of Južna Morava and on the banks of Oblačina, Bovan and Zavoj lakes.
