The City Utility Company “Parking Service” – is a public utility company responsible for the organization, payment, and control of parking in Niš.
It was founded in July 2006 by Niš City Assembly, and officially registered with the Serbian Business Registers Agency in August 2006. The idea behind its establishment was to systematically solve the problem of parking in central city zones and organize parking spaces and parking lots in such a way as to contribute to the communal order in the city.
The company predominantly offers services in road traffic (63214). Therefore, the City of Niš founded this company with the aim for it to maintain, manage, and utilize public parking lots.
As all major cities, the City of Niš has been overburdened with traffic and in need of public parking spaces for years now. The experience of European cities, but also that of major cities in our country (Belgrade, Novi Sad) shows that the parking problem can be solved in a number of ways: by redirecting traffic and proclaiming the city center a pedestrian zone; by charging a fee for entering the city core by car; or by dividing the city into a number of parking zones.
By 2006, the parking system in the city of Niš had been the responsibility of the Utility Company “Mediana” – the Static Traffic Sector. As parking is a complex problem, and not one of the principal activities of the “Mediana” company, there was now a need to establish a new Public Utility Company – Parking Service, Niš.
The sole task of this company is to find solutions to the parking problem by:
• marking new parking spaces,
• building public garages,
• providing time limits for parking duration,
with the goal to help improve conditions in both static and dynamic traffic.
To solve the parking problem, one needs to dedicate enough attention to all users, especially the residents of the central city zone and those working in this zone, and also to population categories daily facing the parking problem, who are in the most urgent need of solutions.
Modern information systems have been introduced to simplify the payment of parking fees by the users, and to make it easier for the utility company “Parking Service” to manage the parking system and swiftly and efficiently solve any potential problems, especially in the early months of implementation. |
