Sv. Archangel Michael - the small cathedral temple
The Church of St. Archangels Mihail is situated in the church port of the great Cathedral Temple. Until the sanctification of the Cathedral in 1878, this church was a Cathedral Temple of Nis eparchy. It was built around 1814 and it was sanctified in 1819 at the time of the Turkish rule and most of it had to be buried in the ground because of the Turkish regulations at that time which did not allow Serbian buildings to be higher than allowed. It was built of unprocessed river stones and unburned bricks, whereas the interior construction, arcs, columns and gallery were made of wood. Iconostasis is lavishly made of plastics and in woodcarving. As such, it is a valuable gift to the Monastery of Hilandar in Nis eparchy.
